CCP: Esophageal variceal bleeding

PCP: For Interfacility Transport of a patient with any of the conditions outlined above

• Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the medication

Adult and Pediatrics

Standard Solution Concentration: 5mcg/mL

• Dilute 500mcg in 100mL of NS
• Dilute 1250mcg in 250mL of NS

IV

• Onset: within 30 minutes
• Half life: 1.5 hours

Central Nervous System

• Transient dizziness

Cardiovascular

• Bradycardia

Endocrine

• Hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia

Gastrointestinal

• Abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia
• Cholelithiasis

Musculoskeletal/Derm

• Peripheral edema

Bradycardia, arrhythmias, and conduction abnormalities have been observed in acromegalic and carcinoid syndrome patients taking octreotide

• Caution with patients receiving hypoglycemics as can potentiate the effects
• Caution in patients receiving beta blockers and calcium channel blockers as it can cause further bradycardia
