Some workflow tips when transporting a patient to an emergency department that uses Siren Notification Board (SNB):
- Missing OR duplicate calls on the Siren Notification Board are an unfortunate by-product of how we do our layered calls. (1) If Crew A selects their Destination (shows up on SNB) as they will be transporting, then transfers a copy of the PCR to Crew B, the entry in SNB will be replaced with Crew B's PCR. The system is built around only having one PCR for the patient. (2) When two crews respond to a call and both select the Destination facility, then Crew A transfers their PCR to Crew B this creates a NEW PCR and subsequently adds a new entry to the Notification Board as its treating it like a new event. If you’re crew B and have received a copied PCR- then its prudent to delete the original PCR you created. In both cases, the best practice when on a layered or multi response event is to not to select the destination facility until the transport decision has been made and who will be transporting.
- when transporting a patient from a care home, leave any documentation such as “resident transfer sheet”, or transfer package with the Registration Clerks. There is a lot of valuable information on the forms that the Registration staff require to ensure accurate information is captured when processing the admission such as current GP, address, family contacts, and more.
- during an interfacility transfers, choosing the appropriate Provider's Impression will allow Triage and Registration staff to identify which patients are inbound to the ED. When you select the Provider's Impression, choose "Interfacility Transfer- see Complaint". This will be displayed on the SNB and be the key indicator for registration that they can disregard that patient.
- If you’re an ACP and transporting to an SNB ED, did you know you can have the registration clerks print your LP15 report for the patient’s chart? Instead of printing from the monitor, simply "attach" reports to your PCR in order for hospitals with Siren Notification Board to open and print. After the event is imported, go to the Events menu and View Reports, then select the reports you want attached. Details are shown in this short video.
