• State the requirements for CAD messages to be received in Siren
• Apply CAD event information to a new or existing PCR
• Reconcile patient data when new CAD events come in throughout a call
• Recognize the meaning of the icons in the CAD indicator
Siren Field User is set up to work with the CAD system. CAD “events” can be received in Siren and applied to a PCR, saving you time with data entry.
Key Point: There are two requirements for CAD events to be received:
• You have logged into Siren with the correct call sign. (CAD messages are received for the call sign used at log in).
• You have server connectivity
Whenever the CAD system has new information, whether for a new or existing PCR, it will be sent to Siren and you will see a notification box pop up on your screen.
After you click OK, the CAD list will pop up in Siren, displaying CAD event details.
Key Point: Once you’ve selected an event on the CAD List, choose one of these two options then follow the prompts:
1. To apply the CAD event to an existing PCR: click Apply – Existing PCR
2. To start a new PCR from the CAD event: click Apply – New PCR
After applying the CAD information to a new PCR, access it from the Patient List, where the PCR will display an icon indicating that CAD information has been received.
The CAD event information has now been applied to the fields in the Incident and Patient ID section of the PCR in Siren.
Key Point: Always validate the CAD events that have been applied to the PCR by confirming the information in the Incident section.
After you have applied CAD events to an existing PCR, you will see a pop-up window listing the events that have been applied. To accept the new information, click OK.
Throughout a call, new CAD events may come in for fields you have already entered information into.
Key Point: If any of the new CAD information differs from what is currently in a field, you’ll see a digit in the CAD indicator, showing how many messages have conflicts. You’ll need to choose the information you want to use.
Click on the CAD indicator to begin reconciling the information.
Key Point: The Reconcile Patient Data screen lists all fields that have new CAD events. For each row where there is a conflict, select either the CAD or Siren information. Once all CAD information has been reconciled, you’ll see a check mark in the CAD indicator.
The CAD indicator will display one of three ways:
? - No CAD activity is occurring
1 - Number of CAD messages with conflicts
√ - All CAD events are reconciled
Key Point: Click on the CAD indicator to access the list of CAD events that have been received since you’ve been logged into Siren. CAD events will automatically delete from this list after a period of time.
Key Point: When you enter these four key times into CAD they will be sent back to Siren as updated CAD information and you won’t need to enter them directly into Siren. Enter all other times into Siren in the usual way.
1. En route to Scene
2. At Scene
3. En route to Destination
4. At Destination
Key Point: CAD information only flows one way – information from CAD flows into Siren, but information from Siren will not flow back to CAD. Therefore, you’ll need to enter all of the information you normally would into CAD.
