In this module, we’re going to take a quick look at the key items in the Patient ID tab. If you need a refresher on entering dates, times and other data, review Navigation Part 1: The Pick List, and Navigation Part 2: Entering Data.
There are 3 menus in the Patient ID tab: Identification, Health Card and Patient Lookup.
In the Identification menu, you’ll enter information used to identify the patient and their contacts.
On this screen you’ll use pick lists, a date field and linked numeric fields to enter basic patient information.
If you want to change the weight unit from kilograms to pounds, do so before entering the quantity. (See the module Navigation Part 2: Entering Data).
In this screen you’ll enter patient address information.
Key Point: If the Patient Address is the same as the Incident Location, use Copy Incident Location to copy that information into Patient Address.
For information on the use of the Copy button, see The Copy Button below.
Key Point: If you’ve copied Incident Location into Patient Address, make sure it’s correct.
Key Point: The Contact Persons screen allows you to enter information for a physician or for a billing contact other than the patient. You’ll use a pick list and access details to make your entries, then view the entries on a summary table.
Enter the patient’s physician name and information in this screen.
Key Point: Within the Health Card screen, you’ll use the pick list to select the PHN (or other type of card / number) and access the details to enter the number. The entry will display on the summary table.
In the rare circumstances where you have more than one insurance provider or card type to enter, you may want to use the primary / other buttons to set the billing priority of each insurer.
Key Point: You will find a Copy button in several locations in the Patient ID tab. Use it to copy information from one type of contact to another.
By doing this, you’ll save time entering information.
On any screen where the Copy button appears, the function will copy information from somewhere else, into the screen you are in.
Here are some situations in which you’d want to use Copy:
• The patient is a minor and you’re adding the parent in Contact Persons – Billing Information. You can copy the address from Patient Address.
• The patient has someone who is their power of attorney and lives with them. You can copy the address from Patient Address.
